Re: Use of Los Altos Rod and Gun Club Range Facilities

The following are some of our guidelines and rules pertaining to your group's use of our facilities.

Free Entry

Members, leaders, and instructors of non-profit organizations, such as Scouts, church youth groups, and youth shooting clubs who conduct training in gun handling, safety, and shooting skills, will be permitted free use of the Range Facilities (not including the Members-Only range and the Electric Trap range), at the sole discretion of the Los Altos Rod and Gun Club.  We ask that your troop wear its colors - it looks great to have a Scout troop in uniform on the range.

Making a Request

Requests must be made in writing, for review by the Range Master and Director of Operations. The request must substantiate the requesting organization's status, number of participants, and training/activity to be conducted. This request will be required for each use and should be submitted at least 45 days before the desired date and time. This will allow sufficient time for consideration and approval, and scheduling.

Range Hours and Rules

The range is open to the public Thursday-Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm (4 pm during the winter months of November-March). We are closed Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. On rare occasions, we close due to poor weather. I enclose a copy of our Range Rules, which you should review before arriving.

Parental Permission Forms

The Los Altos Rod and Gun Club requires that anyone under the age of eighteen (18) be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or have written consent signed by their parent or legal guardian designating a person over 21 years of age who will accompany and supervise the minor. (This includes rifles, shotguns, and handguns).

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 21 planning to shoot a handgun must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or have written consent signed by their parent or legal guardian to shoot a handgun at the range. (This is not required for rifle or shotgun).

You can print and make copies of our Parental Permission Form for use with each participant.

Eye and Hearing Protection

Eye and Hearing protection is mandatory for all persons going to our range, including those persons who are merely observing. For your convenience, we sell eye protection for $3.75, ear plugs for $.95, and ear muffs for $12.75.

When You Arrive

When you arrive on your scheduled day, tell the office that you are here, and sign in each and every one of your group. Our Range Master or a Range Officer he designates will meet you, and instruct you on our procedures and rules. Once this meeting has taken place, and any questions addressed, the Range Master will accompany your group to the appropriate range, and stay with you as you set up and begin your session. You will be allocated a reasonable number of shooting positions based on your group's size and the number of customers at the range on that day.

Supervision

The group are guests at our facility, and must obey all rules, and exhibit proper behavior. The group must be supervised by qualified adults in the group, such as NRA certified instructors. Youth shooters must be under the direct supervision of a responsible adult at all times. One adult for every 3 or 4 youths usually works well, with direct one-on-one supervision of each youth when shooting.

Ammunition and Targets

We sell a variety of ammunition and targets at competitive prices, which we encourage you to purchase. For example, we sell .22 long rifle boxes of 50 rounds for $2.50; 12 Ga. Shotgun ammunition is $5.50 for a box of 25; clay pigeons are $12.50 for a box of 135; targets cost between 50 cents and a dollar.

Picnic Area

Our picnic area is available to you. If you want to light the BBQ pit, please discuss this with the Range Master when you arrive. We also sell sodas and snacks.

Thank You Letter

After your shooting session, we request that you send us a thank you letter for our file. Also, if you have any comments or suggestions, they are most welcome.

We hope that you will have an enjoyable session at our Range. If you would like to return again in the future, please remember to contact us in advance for scheduling.

Very Truly Yours,

LOS ALTOS ROD AND GUN CLUB
